Work

I’ve created or co-created a wide selection of graphic novels, comics, and zines.

  • A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge
  • The Influencing Machine
  • FLASHed: Sudden Stories in Comics and Prose
  • A Few Perfect Hours
  • Terms of Service
  • The Vagabonds
  • Because of You
  • Titans of Finance

I’ve also done comics for The Nib, Columbia Journalism Review, Foreign Policy magazine, The Boston Globe, Pacific Standard, The Oxford American, ReadyMade magazine, The Village Voice, The Chicago Reader, and many other venues. You can read a selection of my comics journalism, informational stories, and assorted other pieces here. (For a complete list, check out my comixography.)

American Splendor
Until his death in 2010, I was a regular illustrator for American Splendor, Harvey Pekar’s unflinching and pessimistic account of his own life. (I also co-host a podcast about the American Splendor film called Scene by Scene with Josh & Dean.)
